IDEX presents new biometric card

IDEX shows a new biometric card with IDEX SmartFinger Film fingerprint sensor technology at CARTES North America.

IDEX ASA today demonstrated a new biometric verification card which includes the SmartFinger® Film fingerprint sensor. The new IDEX powered biometric card has been developed by its partner Embedx Corporation and is called BioMatrix(TM). IDEX and Embedx entered into a strategic partnership in October 2011 and have worked closely over the last 6 months to bring the technology to demonstration at the IDEX booth at the CARTES North America Exhibition and Conferences this week. Embedx’ Biomatrix verification card is targeted at banking data centers and controlled access to university dormitories and student activity centers.

“Embedx has developed three biometric platforms over the last 40 months and the IDEX SmartFinger Film solution has proven to be the most flexible and dynamic,” said John Gregory CTO Embedx Corporation.

Partner momentum
With this product demonstration, IDEX now has three partner companies in the smart card business that have developed prototypes embedding the SmartFinger Film technology.

“The strong demand for user friendly security within the ID, access control, e-commerce and financial services markets is taking off, as evident by the fact that another of our partners presents a working card with an on-board SmartFinger biometric system. We are encouraged by the partner momentum and the increased interest our fingerprint technology receives,” said Ralph W. Bernstein, CEO of IDEX, and mentioned that over the last twelve months the number of partner companies has tripled to more than ten.

System-on-card ensures privacy
IDEX demonstrated the first one time password card with IDEX SmartFinger Film sensor inside in December 2010. In November 2011, Card Tech launched the ISO-compliant biometric pinKey® card. Today Embedx showed its Biomatrix verification card.

All three prototype cards are system-on-card solutions which include the ultra-thin SmartFinger Film sensor and and a microprocessor to run the biometric algorithms. Such system-on-card approach safeguards the user’s privacy. The biometric data of the user is stored securely inside the smart card and the biometric data is never transmitted out of the card.

Demonstration units at CARTES North America
At CARTES North America IDEX will also demonstrate S.I.C. Biometrics’ novel security solution FID® (Finger Identification Device) for Apple iPhone as well as the SmartFinger Secure Processor software (SSP) and the new Smartfinger evaluation kit.

“CARTES North America is the major industry trade show for North America where the decision makers and key suppliers in the smart security industry meet,” explained Bernstein.
