Successful testing of IDEX SmartFinger® Film

Ready for ramp up to volume production of polymer-based fingerprint sensors.

Oslo, Norway, 14 Februar 2011: IDEX has recently performed extensive quality testing of the company’s SmartFinger® Film fingerprint sensors at accredited testing laboratories.

-The recent test results show that IDEX can start the ramp up to volume production towards the summer and confirms that we are ready to take more orders going forward, says a delighted Ralph W. Bernstein, CEO of IDEX.

The quality testing is a part of the preparation for volume production of the sensor. The tests have been performed according to customer requirements and industry standards. The sensors have been tested for usage environment demands such as temperature, humidity, vibrations and wear.

-Since IDEX is in a commercial phase, our ability to deliver in commercial volumes and ramp up deliveries will be a priority going forward, Bernstein adds.

SmartFinger Film is an ultra thin and flexible polymer-based fingerprint sensor, which is especially well suited for ID cards and financial cards. By integrating the sensor, fingerprint data and software on the card, the cardholder’s identity can be verified without the fingerprint data leaving the card. The user does not need to set the fingerprint on an external fingerprint reader, and one also avoids the need for large, centralized databases. This reduces the risk of misappropriation of fingerprint information. Existing equipment, infrastructure and terminals can be used without modifications.

IDEX in January received the first order for SmartFinger Film sensors from US-based Validus Technologies Inc. These sensors will be used in Validus’ new biometric card. This delivery is scheduled for early in the second quarter of 2011.
