IDEX receives commercial order for smartphone and smart card fingerprint sensor security

S.I.C. Biometrics has placed a commercial order for IDEX SmartFinger Film fingerprint sensors.

Fornebu, Norway 2 April 2012: S.I.C. Biometrics Inc. (S.I.C.) has placed an order of IDEX SmartFinger® Film fingerprint sensors and biometric software for S.I.C.’s novel FID® device designed for Apple iPhone, iPad and Android-based devices, as well as in the S.I.C. Touch Prox biometric smart card.

The order is the commercial follow-on from the successful results of activities conducted under the cooperation agreement between the two companies in 2011. The SmartFinger Film fingerprint sensor has been integrated into S.I.C’s novel mobile security solution FID (Finger Identification Device) for Apple iPhone and was shown to the industry at the CARTES & IDentification in Paris, France, in November 2011. Further orders will be subject to the success of S.I.C.’s product.

“Smartphones and mobile devices need stronger security and enhanced data protection. The emergence of mobile commerce, near field communication and contactless payments compounds this need. On-device fingerprint biometrics is the obvious choice for added personal security while safeguarding privacy,” said Ralph W. Bernstein.

“At S.I.C. Biometrics we strongly believe that everyone should have access to efficient and affordable personal mobile security solutions. I am proud to say that we, with the launch of FID, deliver increased security to users around the world,” said Eric Talbot, founder and CEO of S.I.C. Biometrics Inc. “The form factor of the thin and bendable SmartFinger Film allows us to include fingerprint security in a small, well-designed sleeve made from an attractive material,” he added.

FID is the first iPhone 4 casing with fingerprint sensor, allowing users to securely access their social media accounts and web-based applications with a simple swipe of a finger.

S.I.C. designs, manufactures and internationally commercializes biometric security products and solutions that are used to protect people, institutions, enterprises and buildings against theft, fraud and terrorism.

“S.I.C. offers superior fingerprint identity management solutions for several industries”, Bernstein continued, “and we are proud to have been selected as a strategic supplier for their biometric enabled security products.” “We are also pleased to report that the order will be fulfilled by sensors using substrates produced on large-scale polymer processing equipment,” he concluded.

IDEX offers SmartFinger swipe sensor fingerprint technology and authentication solutions that facilitate simple integration into a wide range of products. The company currently targets embedded solutions such as hand-held ID terminals, ID cards, banking cards and smart cards, smartphones and accessories to smartphones.
