IDEX and S.I.C. demonstrate mobile security solutions for Apple iPhone
Oslo, Norway, 14 November 2011: IDEX ASA and its partner S.I.C. Biometrics Inc. will demonstrate the SmartFinger® Film fingerprint sensor integrated into S.I.C’s new mobile security solution FID® (Finger Identification Device) for Apple iPhone at CARTES & IDentification in Paris, France.
S.I.C.’s FID® is targeted at individual consumers and professional users. All users of Apple iPhone mobile phones and iPad tablet computers can now experience simple and secure access to all their web-based applications and social media accounts by only swiping their finger on a sensor. S.I.C has selected the award-winning SmartFinger Film fingerprint sensor technology and software algorithms for the FID®. The software algorithms are embedded in the FID® microprocessor which performs on-device enrollment, template storage and verification in use.
“S.I.C. is a pioneer in its field, and we are proud that the IDEX SmartFinger Film has been implemented in the technologically innovative FID®, which offers biometric security to users of Apple’s smart phones and tablet computers,” said Ralph W. Bernstein, CEO of IDEX. “We expect considerable market adoption of on-device fingerprint system products which protect the personal, critical and confidential information on modern mobile devices and safeguard their use in access and payment applications” he added.
“The form factor of the thin and bendable SmartFinger Film allows us to include fingerprint security in a small, well-designed sleeve made from an attractive material,” said Eric Talbot of S.I.C., and added “We are now preparing for delivering enhanced security and convenience to all iPhone and iPad users.”
S.I.C’s FID® is based on its iFMID® product created in 2009. The iFMID® was the first fingerprint reader available on the market for iPhone and iPad, targeted at institutional and commercial fields of use.
